This project is in the Northeast Kingdom on a large 70 acre site. This musical family were looking for a retreat in Vermont and a place that they could enjoy over time and which incorporated aspects of the property including a mix of meadows, hardwood forest, ponds and wetlands. A master plan was developed to build upon an existing trail system with links to various features of the property. With the main house as the first phase of the project, future phases will include out-buildings including guest cottages and a music gathering and performance space. The main house sits upon a high point of land with views that project from the immediate meadow to Vermont pastoral mid-range views and distant White Mountain views. With eastern and southern exposure, the main living spaces are animated with sunlight and at the same time protected from summer solar gain and weather elements with large protective overhangs. The internal circulation reveals the perspective to the outdoors as you move through the house. The master suite is situated on the main level with other family bedrooms and a guest suite at the lower level. A music room is included off the great room separated with a Shoji style sliding door system to provide privacy and sound isolation to the practicing musician.
